As one of the destinations I chose on this winter trip, I decided to do an overnight trip to Nachikatsuura, a small seaside town located in the southern edge of Wakayama Prefecture. It is around four hours one way by train from Kyoto Station using the limited express Kuroshio and costs about  ¥8,450 one way from Kyoto Station. The journey itself takes you through the coastline of the Kii Peninsula, which is a really scenic train line and makes up for the four hour journey to get there.
One of the main reasons I wanted to go here is to visit Kumano Nachi Taisha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site a part of the larger Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route. One of it's main allure and what makes this shrine so beautiful and unique is the nearby Nachi Falls, which I believe is the tallest waterfall in Japan.
